From the 3rd to the 6th of June, 2016, Group Seven relocated to Cannes for the first time to take part in the famous MIDEM (an international trade fair for the music industry). This of course was a fantastic opportunity to make contact with the movers and shakers in the worldwide musical ecosystem. Representatives of the company were able to hold discussions with a number of the speakers at the event, amongst whom some major industry names (notably Keith Harris, Allen Johnston, Rob Gareth Davies) as well as key actors from within the infrastructure ( for example Martine Reicherts, head of the European Commission’s Directorate-General Education and Culture (DG EAC). The company was therefore able to present its network of people and skills which continue to develop; (Notably at present via the newly acquired official documentation and promotional products ) to identify potential partners and to envisage opportunities for future development.
At the end of the visit to Cannes, Group Seven were able to leave with solid contacts and subjects to further investigate in collaboration with American and British interlocutors. Representatives of the company are also now participating in a working group under the leadership of the European Commission, looking into the legal frameworks and digitalisation of the musical sector. Group Seven has also opened a discussion with specialists in the field of publishing and labels with the objective of widening the scope of the group’s skill base to include this area of expertise and also with relation to positioning its own artists and musicians.
